Police investigates bribed dispatch rider in disgusting video
The Ghana Police Service has begun the hunt for a driver whose video has gone viral, boasting he bribed a police dispatch rider to escort his vehicle through traffic in Accra.
The police service is also investigating the dispatch rider in the video, a statement signed by the Director-General in charge of the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, Rev. David Ampah-Bennin, said.
“The Police approved an official request for security escort from Gold Star Consult for national and international football stars, travelling to Kumasi for a Soccer Fiesta, an event in support of Kumasi Children’s Hospital,” the statement said.
The statement continued: “On Saturday, 19th June 2015, a convoy of the celebrities left the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange enroute to Kumasi, and in the course of the journey the video circulating on the social media was taken by persons now identified as associates of some of these stars, and part of the convoy.
“The conduct of the Police dispatch rider and the driver of the vehicle captured in the video is being investigated for the necessary action.”
Police escorts are often reserved for the President, Vice President and, in some cases, very important ministerial convoys. But it seems in Ghana today, if you have money to bribe a police dispatch rider, you will escape the suffocating traffic and cause more discomfort to those in it.
In this video that has gone viral, however, a man who bribes the police for escort is allowed to drive through a one-way street. The man, whose face is shown in the video with a number of ladies, brags about how his money has earned him a VIP treatment.
In the video he does not only defy the traffic regulations and cause discomfort to other road users but he also uses the F-word a number of times and calls other road users “nigger.” He is cheered by the ladies, whose faces are shown in the video.
“S—t, we’re buying GH!” he says.
The next time you see someone being given police escort, don’t conclude that they are important government officials. It may be an ordinary person, perhaps a lawbreaker, who has paid a police officer to help them break more laws.
