Later today, an Accra circuit court will deliver judgment on the sodomy and defilement case involving the senior medical officer of the Afia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Takoradi, Dr. Sulley Ali-Gabass.

Dr. Sulley Ali-Gabass was arrested following an investigation by Joy FM’s Manasseh Azure Awuni, which revealed he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a sixteen year old senior high school boy. The boy said he was fifteen years when they first had sex.

The boy alleged that apart from the first sexual intercourse, he was forced in the other four encounters. Dr. Sulley Ali-Gabass was arrested and charged with defilement.

Judgment will be delivered today but sources close to Dr. Sulley Ali-Gabass in the Nsawam Prison, where he is currently being kept, say he is hopeful of being released. The sources tell manassehazure.com that Dr. Gabass says he has a strong case and will walk free after the ruling.

When Manasseh Azure Awuni confronted Dr. Ali-Gabass after gathering substantial evidence that he had a relationship with the boy, he confessed having sex with the boy.

“You know, with this sexual thing, you know, for some of us we are trying our best. You know, it’s like being born with it. That edge is there,” he said.

“It was in my car he actually … I was going to Accra. He says the … he will meet me. In fact, I was so this thing because he said he was doing science so, in fact, it was through this that I … this guy was so sexually this thing,” he explained after admitting that he met the boy on Facebook.

He went on: “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do. I won’t lie to you, in fact, it was a mistake. You see, this guy, I don’t know. It’s like … it’s not carnal knowledge per say but the fact that this guy a minor, a friend of yours and then you know this thing.”

It is not clear why Dr. Sulley Ali-Gabass is so hopeful but during the trial, the judge once warned his lawyers when supporters and family members jubilated when the court went on a short break for a ruling over an objection. The judge, Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu, said she had been informed that supporters of the court were told that the case was going in favour of the senior medical officer. She warned Dr. Gabass’ lawyer not to create any impression of victory when the case was still far from over.

Lawyer for the victim, Francis Xavier-Sosu beieves the trial has been an “interesting” and he expects justice to be done in today’s ruling.
