Shortage of doctors imminent as 144 junior doctors strike in Korle-Bu

There is an imminent shortage of doctors at the nation’s biggest referral health facility, the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. This is because of today’s announcement by junior doctors of a strike action.

There was shortage of medical doctors at the hospital last month, but the problem was resolved when the 144 junior doctors started work last month.

The junior house officers say management of the hospital has failed to facilitate their work in the hospital. Among other things, the junior doctors say they have been working without appointment letters from the hospital, medical examination for fitness, laboratory coats, staff identification cards and feeding.

All the 144 junior doctors have, therefore, suspended their services to the hospital at 5p.m. on June 18, 2015.

Below is a copy of the letter written by the junior doctors to management of Korle-Bu suspending their services to the hospital.
